Race 4 May 25th Report by Intrepid Windsurf Reporter Tony Tiffen
===========================================
It would seem that Thursday racing is all or nothing. Force 8 last week, no wind this week, so it was back to the white whales for more course racing. There were various murmurings on the shore as to whether it was worth it or not, but this time as it happens the wind did freshen a bit to a force 2. So 14 worthy souls set sail. A few formalities had to be settled before we started. Mark Fowler had discovered that his ‘ on water’ harem had increased to five with the new inclusion of Janet, she had to suffer the initiation rights of being boarded by Mark before she had even attached the rig to the board (this I presume to be some sort of male dominance thing, to keep his harem in their place)
The start went without a hitch (most unusual). And immediately the trend was set, for Dave Lewis set off in the lead, hotly pursued by Tim Davies. These two battled it out through out the three laps, but were never challenged by us lesser mortals. Further back in third came John Andel, while your intrepid reporter was just behind.
It was difficult to see what was going on further back, Mike the dentist was going well ( nobody more surprised than him) Rob was finding that a seven foot bloke on a 320 board doesn’t really work, while new contestant Jonathan Harris had resurrected a very strange beast from Noah’s time to do battle on.
One’s heart went out to Mark Fowler, he was having one hell of time keeping his harem together, five of them all twittering about and going off on different tacks were giving him problems, so busy was he, that he didn’t even have time to ram the Lake manager as he normally did.
One off his flock was making a brake for freedom in the shape of Annette as she moved into seventh place, while ‘Sandy paws’ was adopting the opposite ploy of dropping right back to last in her bid for sanctuary.
Meanwhile the pace was hotting up at the front. Tim had got a lift while Dave was headed on the last upwind leg; Tim had sneaked through to take the lead with the finish post tantalisingly close. Dave (I’m definitely not going to pump) Lewis, realised that this called for drastic action and PUMPED his way up to sit on Tim’s proverbial tail at the penultimate mark. Tim lost his wind as Dave covered him, so that Dave nipped past to win. Mr Lewis was seen wiping his brow and muttering
“Shit that was close”
Further back a similar battle was taking place; John Andel had slightly cocked up the beat on the second lap and let Tony through. But Tony obliged on the final beat, by like wise making a mess of it. So Commodore Andel came third, with your reporter just fourth, hotly pursued by SIG (Stick insect Graham) who was shouting something as he closed the gap. Fortunately the old boy ahead of him is as deaf as a post and was totally unaware of the verbal sarcasm that was directed at him.
Mike came a very good sixth while break away Annette took seventh. Mark came eighth with his depleted harem just behind Jo in ninth and Alex in tenth (to be fair to Alex she does have other things on her mind, THE LURE OF A KOMBAT 106)
Rob wrestled his yellow submarine into eleventh, while Jonathan brought the Ark in twelfth, Janet in thirteenth place found the whole thing a hoot, she hadn’t had so much fun all week.
SANDY PAWS? You ask?
Beating up the onlookers when I last saw her!
So Dave claimed his second first place and took the overall lead again
The whole thing strikes me as very
